Use the force, Luke*.
You should listen to that voice, she says. This is in response to how the Holy Spirit wakes me at o-dark-thirty nearly every morning and how I often brush Him off as I tend to more important matters: sleep.
You should try to get up and write, she says. She, being my twenty-three year old niece as well as she, meaning myself. We’re both saying the same thing. But I’m the one who is not always doing as instructed.
This is how the battle goes: But sleep!, I think, as though last dying words, while doing what I know I’m being told to do. I feign a fight. Unsheathing my sword. But sleep! Tightening my grip. And warmth! Readying my feet. And sleep! A deep breath into the lungs. And comfort! A long, slow exhale. And snuggle time with my dog! I am prepared. And sleep! For battle. And comfort! Sound the trumpet. And more sleep! zzzzzzzz
Is that really what I’m prepared to answer to the Good Lord? Sorry, guy, I was sleeping. I was so comfortable, I just couldn’t.
Atrocious.
Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man. Proverbs 24:33-34
Tip: Sleep doesn’t always just mean… sleep. It’s, in effect, whatever it is you’re doing that is not… what the Good Lord has planned for you. You feel me? Make the adjustment, as necessary, and respond accordingly. AKA: apply this to your life. That… is what scripture is for. Learn how to wield your weapon, young Jedi.
*Luke means light giver, bringer of light.
